Lieutenant Juan Pablo Mallea, who was at the controls of the CASA 212 plane that crashed in Juan Fernández, had several notations in his flying school’s file, listing him as a bad student. The document mentiones cases of “immaturity” and ”lack of confidence” as well as ”poor performance in the classroom.” In his training for a CASA C-212 model aircraft, the exact type that crashed in Juan Fernandez, Lieutenant Mallea’s performance was described as being “odd.

Minister of Defense, Andres Allamand, said that he “[does] not think it is possible to disqualify a person simply because he, at some point in his training, did not pass a subject.”

Cecilia Morel ranked first of the 100 most important women in Chile

First Lady Cecilia Morel has been elected the most important woman in Chile in an election held by the El Mercurio newspaper. Over 16,000 women voted on the leading female  in Chile. A deciding jury was then formed out of prominent executives, entrepreneurs, government officials, journalists and important social and cultural personalities. The award has existed since 2002 and is bestowed annually. Morel vistited the office of El Mercurio with President Sebastian Piñera, where both of them congratulated the other award winners.
