Students in France, Spain and Germany will show their support for the Chilean student movement as they take part in the international student march this Thursday, Nov. 24. The march, organized by the confederation of Chilean students, CONFECH, and Colombia’s Mesa Amplia Nacional Estudiantil, has also garnered support from students in Argentina, Peru, Brazil and Mexico.

This is a positive response following the trip that the president of FECh, Camila Vallejo, took to Europe last month. European participation suggests CONFECH was succesful in its aim to raise awareness of the Chilean student movement in Europe and gain support from European students.

According to Patricio Contreras, a spokesman for CONFECH, the multinational scale of this march demonstrates the support for restoration of the right to free and high-quality education for all. Yet CONFECH also stated that the aim of the march was not to pressure the government with their demands, but to demonstrate solidarity between students in different countries, both in Latin America and Europe.

Thursday will see Chilean students marching through the center of Santiago.
