This summer, art moves to the beach with exhibitions and plays in Zapallar, Cachagua and Laguna and Catapilco.
Organised by Inmobiliaria Almagro and Zapallar Municipality, activities will start on January 8th with the exhibition “Colors and Textures”, featuring both well-known and up-and-coming artists. Opening at 9pm in Teatro Zapallar, works including enamel, silk-screen printing and engraving will be on display from Chilean artists Paula Ortiz, Carolina Balmaceda, Guadalupe Valdés and Francisca Valdés.
The cycle continues with the play “Minuto, el Muñeco de Trapo,” produced by Raúl Llovet. It tells the history of Minuto, a hero toy who saves Princess Alejandrina from the spiders legs toy, Malatela. The play will feature at 8:30pm on 7th January in Plaza de los Burros de Cachagua, on 8th January in Bosque de Zapallar and on 9th January in Laguna Beach.
Starting on January 13th, Zapallar corridor will be visited by big format sculptures, “Gigantes sobre el mar”, which includes works from artists from the Chilean Society of Sculptors, Elvira Valenzuela, Palolo Valdés, Soledad Chadwick, María de los Ángeles Pérez-Cotapos and Macarena Irarrázabal, among others. The same group of sculptors will present 22 works in small formats in Zapallar Theater from January 15th to 29th.
The art continues into February with a photography exhibition starting on February 12th at 7.30pm at the beach boulevard. “Escenas de Zapallar” by José Tomás Rodriguéz plays with zoom-effects and coastal symbols.
The season will close with “2+1” at the Zapallar Theater, where artists such as Lorenzo Moya and Jesús González, along with sculptor Pilar Landerretche, will recreate in fabric, bronze and oil, the best of the coast.
Finally, art workshops for adults and children of Catapilco and Laguna will take place every Tuesday and Wednesday, from 6pm to 8pm, throughout January and February.
According to cultural manager, Carolina Ortiz “this is the best current Chilean art selection, and it will be available for every summer vacationer and locals visiting the coast. This project is an opportunity to make a great social contribution to the community, and not only offering art pieces, but also teaching them how to do it.”
Almagro has a long and successful relationship with art and promoting national culture. In 2011, it plans to keep offering its support to art and up-and-coming artists, bringing art to both buyers and the community. As Director, José Ignacio Reyes said: “we are interested in participating everywhere with art and Chilean culture, that’s the reason why we decided to bring pieces from distinguished national artists to the coast: this initiative is consistent with the 10 years connection that Almagro has with art.”
