A new poll, conducted by Ipsos, has showed President Sebastián Piñera’s approval rating has reached 53.6%, while his disapproval rating is at 44.2%.
Included in the results was a 49.7% support in regards to the management of the government and a 46.2% disapproval rating. 58.9% of respondents believe that Chile is on track, while 33.4% reject that statement.
51.6% believe that over the next six months the situation will remain the same while 37.6% believe it will improve and 10.1% get worse.
The poll was conducted by phone from August 4-22nd and included 1,009 people from around Chile. There is an error margin of +/- 2.5%.
The poll also asked respondents who they believed the best President of Chile has been. Michelle Bachelet topped the list, with 43% of the vote, followed by Jorge Alessandri Rodríguez (8.5%) and Ricardo Lagos Escobar (6.6%). Piñera came in last with 2.6%.
Bachelet was said to be honoured with her results in the poll. While in Spain she yesterday denied speculation that she was planning to run again for presidency.
It is not an event in my diary to again be president of the Republic… What matters to me now is to continue working with my people in my country, and also support a series of important causes internationally.” She said in an interview with Radio Nacional.
Jorge Aguilar, the lawyer for the San Estaban mining company, has said that his company’s request to convene with their creditors is the beginning of an “open and transparent” process, and does not point to the start of a bankruptcy process.
Aguilar said in an interview with Radio Cooperativa that his clients, company owners Alejandro Bohn and Marcelo Kemeny wish to “make the assets of the company available to their employees, and creditors. This is an open, transparent process.”
According to Aguilar the company will comply with their commitments to the workers by ensuring that all workers receive their benefits.
The Los Libertadores border crossing in the Fifth Region was closed again this morning due to bad weather conditions. The National Emergency Office, ONEMI, closed the border to all traffic around 6:15 this morning.
Snow and freezing temperatures are the cause of the closure. ONEMI will continue to monitor the area and report any new information.
