Santiago Radio Interview with ABU-BAND, Chilean tribute band to SADE

Marcial Diaz of Subtitulos y Eventos held a recent interview on Santiago radio with three members of ADU-BAND, a Chilean tribute band to SADE.

During the interview, Loretto Canales (vocals), Francisco Gallardo (percussion), and Roberto Lacourt (saxophone), were treated to the best of SADE’s music videos, which VJ Marcial had translated and subtitled in Spanish, and projected on a movie size screen.

ADU-BAND began when a gifted group of local musicians, who are big fans of SADE realized that although Santiago boasts hundred’s of tribute bands, there was no local band tributing the great SADE.  Like SADE, the band’s greatest musical influences have been American Soul, Rhythm n’ Blues, and Latin Music with specific mention of musicians such as Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Charlie Parker, and Michael Jackson.

Although SADE has only released six studio albums in the past 25 years, vocalist Loretto Canales explained, “there are so many popular songs by SADE, we can’t possibly play all of them in any one show. “

“SADE had a show scheduled here in July,” explained drummer Francisco Gallardo, “but the show was cancelled by the band’s promoters because in the end, they didn’t feel SADE had enough of a following down here to fill all the seats.”  Gallardo is in contact with SADE’s first drummer, Paul Anthony Cook.

When asked what ABU-BAND would tell SADE if they could speak with her directly, saxophonist Roberto Lacourt exclaimed, “we would tell her she has many fans in Santiago hoping and waiting to see a live performance.”

ADU-BAND will be performing an earthquake benefit in September at Teatro Roman in Concepción .  They’re scheduled to play unplugged at Pub La Rosa in Peneleon at the end of September and in Vitacura at Cultural Center Amanda in October.

Their first CD, “SHOUT ALOUD,” will feature two of the bands original songs, and is scheduled for release in December.
